Accommodation and Langi Langi Beach Bungalows

The accommodation at Langi Langi has refreshingly simple design and décor, offering a slice of traditional Zanzibari aestheticism combined with ample Western comfort. Wicker furniture offsets large canopied beds. Each room is king or twin with spacious en suite, and has air-conditioning and ceiling fan, hot and cold water, telephone, safe deposit box and fridge. Hair dryers are available on request for a USD 50 deposit. The rooms are spacious and light and most have large balconies. All hotel rooms have easy access to both beach (1-2 minutes walk) and pool.

Food and Drink at Langi Langi Beach Bungalows

The hotel’s restaurant offers a variety of fresh local seafood dishes as well as Swahili dishes and European options. The restaurant comes very highly recommended for both quality and value. There is even the option of taking a cookery class alongside the hotel’s traditional chef. This is a real experience not to be missed. There are also plenty of other bars and restaurants in the area if you decide you need a change.

The resort also has its own café, the Marhaba Café, which serves a variety of coffees, indulgent deserts and fruit juices. All-inclusive packages are available at Langi Langi.

What’s on offer at Langi Langi Beach Bungalows?

The hotel pool is not vast, but is pleasant and well-maintained. Sun-loungers are provided. There is also a deck for really avid sunbathers. Langi Langi also boasts a chill-out garden (Bustani) with trees and local flora. Here guests can unwind in the shade. For those who are still stressed, there is the resort’s massage deck.

The beaches around Langi Langi are quiet and clean and not overcrowded. They are ideal for bathing and catching the sun. However, at high tide one cannot walk along the beach to the regions other bars and restaurants and must take the road. Snorkelling is possible and diving trips can be arranged through the hotel, as can excursions to Stone Town.

Staff at Langi Langi are renowned for their friendly attitude. This is a family run hotel that welcomes guests in as though they were an extended part of that. Pride is taken in the resort and it is clean and cared for. There is always a manager onsite.

Though not as slick or modern as some of the larger five star resorts in the Nungwi region, the Langi Langi Bungalows are well equipped and professional. Business facilities include: internet café with relatively high speed connection, money exchange, and office facilities such as fax machine, scanner and photocopier. There is a call centre for local, national and international calls. Most major credit cards are accepted.

How to get to Langi Langi Beach Bungalows

Langi Langi is located in Nungwi, about an hour’s drive from Stone Town or the airport. The hotel can arrange transfers for guests from either. Alternatively one can use shared minibuses that run daily from Stone Town, or for the very robust there is the number 116 daladala. This bus-come-truck is not comfortable and can take up to three hours to arrive at Nungwi from Stone Town. Yet for those seeking a real-Zanzibari experience, daladalas are certainly one of those!

The drive winds through poor parts of Zanzibar and can be disheartening to tourists, especially considering the almost hypocritical luxury on offer at many of Zanzibar’s resorts. It is important to remember that this country is still developing and that some disquieting scenes are to be expected.
